Yami 1/8 Alpha Omega Figure Review

The star of this week’s loot review is none other than Konjiki no Yami, AKA Golden Darkness from the Anime/Manga To-Love-Ru, and also the star of my latest fanfiction. But you already know that if you are a regular at my blog.

Yami isn’t exactly a main character in the Anime/Manga, but her popularity with the fans is such that she may as well be. Why is she so popular?

That probably answers your question! She isn’t just “moe” but her outfit is one of the most amazing designs for a female in a show that I have seen yet. It also helps that she is:

1. An Assassin (everyone loves Assassins)
2. Looks like a Loli (except she is 26 years old)
3. Wears a black cloak with matching leather and straps (Can’t go wrong with cloaks or leather)
4. Has the power to change her body and hair into anything (She can also make her bewbs go bigger!)
5. She looks a bit like Fate Testarossa from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (Another fanboy magnet)

All of that means I’ve joined her raging otaku club and nominated her as best ToLoveRu female character (Second is Mikan).

So I promised myself that if a figure ever came out of her, I would snap it up, and that is just what I’ve done. Yes, I have again broken my rule of no static PVC figures. The figure is a 1:8 scale PVC figure manufactured by Alpha Omega, and scupted by Tanaka Sen-u.

Don’t you just love opening boxes? It’s like Christmas morning every time you open a new figure!

You actually need to assemble her diorama can stand thingy to get it looking like it’s supposed to. To assist you with this, she comes with these dodgy instructions. To tell the truth, it took a bit of effort fitting the peg into the hole in her bottom so that she would sit flush on the can thing. I got it right in the end though, even though I’m not a back door fan.

This is the diorama and the accessories she comes with. The can with a ladder thing that she sits on. A bag of taiyaki (Japanese snack with some kind of sweet red bean paste inside), and 2 extra pieces of taiyaki that you throw into the bag. Also a white frisbee thing with the ToLoveRu logo on it that you mount the can with a ladder thing on. No, it doesn’t come with the Maid Mikuru, she’s mine!

And here is Yami, all assembled on her can, in all her moe glory. She is eating a taiyaki, while reading some really weird looking book, and there is a wind blowing to her left such that her hair is fluttering in the breeze. Also on her can, she has a full bag of the same taiyaki she is pigging herself out on.

And now for a few rotations.

And now for close-ups of the figure. I didn’t notice this at first, but her mouth is slightly full from chewing the taiyaki (you can see the bite mark in it). The effect looks hard to pull off, but it’s pretty cute.

The text in her book translates as, “And so Rito snuggled up to the slight, beautiful blonde girl and looked deep into her eyes. She sighed as he leaned in close and touched his soft lips to hers. It felt like every fibre of her being was sizzling with anticipation as his tongue began to explore the inside of her mouth…”

Just kidding, I can’t read Kanji.

Yami’s catch phrase is “Ecchi wa dai kirai.” Which means she doesn’t like you looking at this shot.

I’ve never actually had taiyaki before. I wonder if it’s nice. From wikipedia:

Taiyaki (鯛焼き, , lit. “baked sea bream“^?) is a Japanese fish-shaped cake. The most common filling is red bean paste that is made from sweetened azuki beans. Other common fillings may be custard, chocolate, or cheese. Some shops even sell taiyaki with okonomiyaki, gyoza filling, or a sausage inside.

Taiyaki is made using taiyaki, regular pancake or waffle batter. The batter is poured into a fish-shaped mold for each side. The filling is then put on one side and the mold is closed. It is then cooked on both sides until golden brown.

Still, I wonder why it’s made in a fish shape when it doesn’t have fish in it?

Yami absolutely loves taiyaki. Rito introduced her to it in her first appearance, so I guess it stuck.

So now we come to the end of the review. In conclusion, although I think she is a stupendous figure, I give Yami an 8 out of 10. Why do you ask? Because I can’t pose her! She just sort of sits there and I can’t do anything with her (no nothing ecchi, honest!). That may not be fair to her, but well, it’s the Ace scale! I would REALLY love a figma of her though, but like that would ever happen.

I guess the other thing not perfect is her fringe / or bangs. They should have made them more defined because on close shots, they look kind of plasticy. But maybe I’m just being too perfectionist.

However, in the end, she does give motivation to continue writing (along with my energy drinks :P) Anyway, till next review!

P.S. I know drinking more than 1 bottle is bad for you. I drank those particular 2 over a course of 2 days ^_^;;
