Prettiest Figma yet?
Well haven’t done a blog post for a while. It’s been too bloody cold lately so haven’t had the energy to do some photo shoots. But as you can see, I’ve come back from hiatus with a bang with this monster post :). In any case, today I’ll review Figma Reika by Max Factory. It’s actually a special edition, as it comes with Volume 26 of the Gantz Manga.
What is Gantz? For the ones who don’t know, it’s a long-running manga (and also an anime) about, when people die, some of them are “chosen” such that their bodies and memories are “copied like a fax” by a system named Gantz, and their new lives are used to hunt down aliens. The story follows one such teenager, Kei Kurono, who at first is a pretty unsympathetic character, but as the story progresses, he develops into a hero. It sounds pretty crazy, and I’m not even going to attempt to explain it all. It is one bloody, sexy, violent manga. Suffice to say it’s f*cking awesome, and if you haven’t read it yet, I suggest you start. I’ts not available at onemanga, but you can still read it at mangashare.com. It is a licensed series by Dark Horse, so I do suggest that you buy the translated ones when they come out in your area.
Reika herself, doesn’t actually appear in the story as a character until half-way through the series. She does appear in Kurono’s wall as bikini posters early on, but this doesn’t really count. She is an Idol / Model / Singer who is killed, and is also resurrected by Gantz. By this time in the series, Kurono has already developed into a kick ass Gantz Fighter, a leader, who cares about the others, and wants to ensure everyone’s survival. This of course means that Reika develops an extremely strong crush on Kurono…
Unfortunately, by this time, Kurono already has a girlfriend, the very average-looking, but nice, Tae. Tae is actually the main reason for Kurono’s development, so in an ironic way, Reika’s love for Kurono is because of Tae.
In any case, the reason why I love Reika’s character so much, is because she is ultimately doomed. Her love is hopeless, even though she is probably the hottest manga character in all of creation. I think the author, Oku Hiroya, probably came up with her design after one steamy wet dream… kind of ironic is that she could have anyone – but the one person she loves, she can’t have.
Of course, Reika does get around this by the most interesting method imaginable, but for those who haven’t read the manga up to the latest available, I won’t spoil it here. Suffice to say when I was reading the latest chapters I was on the edge of my seat – and it’s only a manga >_>
Anyways, enough about my love for the manga, now on to the figure! Reika actually comes with all 3 main Gantz weapons, the extending katana, the X Gun pistol, and the rifle (not sure what it’s called exactly). She also comes with 3 different facial expressions, which is awesome, because lately Max Factory has been gimping us on the available faces. The back of the box shows some different configurations as usual.
Inside the box is volume 26 of the manga. Reika is on the cover looking hot and chesty as usual. Unfortunately it’s in Japanese, so I wasn’t able to read it directly – however there’s always online translations ^_^;;. Which is good because there were some juicy plot developments with Reika in this one.
No doubt about it, Figma Reika is the new Queen of Figmas. She is smoking
The size of her oppai are faithfully reproduced as per the original character design. Below is some side-boob action. Unfortunately I can’t replicate the G-string (Thong) action here.
I love it when Figmas come with Katanas. Reika’s Gantz Katana makes my 3rd Figma Katana. This one’s blade can be removed to replicate how it looks when retracted in the manga.
The pistol X-gun thing can be split up and attached to her right leg holster. Good attention to detail.
Easily the prettiest Figma yet. I’m not really sure how they can top this one. Reika’s face is absolutely well done, and this smiling one is my favourite out of the three. Here she is with X-gun pistol and rifle thing. The scope on the rifle can actually adjust from side to side, just like in the manga / show. Again, extreme attention to detail.
The angry face also turns out hawt. I guess the funny thing is, even with an angry face, it just doesn’t seem scary when you’ve got a rack like Reika’s.
In summary, step aside Figma Fate, but I’ve got a new favourite figure, and that figure is the new queen of hawtness, REIKA. 10 out of 10 easily.
I regret not getting 2 of her. Anyways, sayanara for now, and hope you enjoyed the review! ~Ace
Nice review and pictures! I learned more about Gantz and Reika then I knew before that’s for sure. I thought about picking up this Figma but I knew absolutely nothing about Gantz when she was announced. It sounds like an interesting read/watch, might just have to check it out soon.
Just watch out for the blood and gore 🙂 Seriously though if you can get past that, it’s well worth the time. Though you might regret not picking up Reika afterwards!
I agree this has the best figma face out there. I was kind of disappointed when I got Aegis. The pictures looked so nice but when she came out she was a lot less polished. Max Factory did really well with Reika. It’s too bad shesan exclusive. I would love to have her.
For those of us not knowing: What is the actual size of this figure in inches?
