Nendoroid Yoko Review

Welcome back to another Ace Review ^_^;; Yes, it’s been some time! Anyway today we’ll be looking at probably one of the most favourite female anime char’s since Kanu Uncho – the kawaii Yoko, in Nendoroid form, by Goodsmile Company…

nendo_yoko_01

When Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann first came out (I think in 2006?) I really didn’t think it was my style of anime, at least in the beginning. How wrong I was! This series is now probably up there as one of my all time favourite animes. If you haven’t seen it yet, maybe because you think mecha animes aren’t really your thing, you’re really missing out. I guarantee it. But since you’re here looking at this review, I’m going to assume you’re already a Gurren Lagann fan, so I won’t bother selling the series to you, the reader, anymore.

Yoko is probably one of the single-most reasons that this series is so loved. And it’s easy to see why…

anime_yoko_02

When she first shows up (in episode 1) I remember it made me literally laugh out loud at the various camera shots of her, in the name of fan service. Not that I’m complaining, mind you.

anime_yoko_03

These shots from episode 1 sort of speak for themselves.

anime_yoko_04

After all that however, I’m going to have to admit that Yoko isn’t my favourite Gurren Female Character. That honor belongs to Nia… yes, the evil Female archetype always gets me (even if she was only evil for a moment). However Yoko does win my favourite Fan Service character of all time ^_^;;

anime_yoko_05

As for the figure, I’m going to have to say that out of the countless Yoko figures already out there, this one is my favourite – despite her being super deformed. My only other Yoko figure is the articulated Fraelein (sp?) Yoko, but to be honest I reckon it didn’t really look like Yoko, if you know what I mean. Something about that face. But this one, even if her head is oversized, really does look like Yoko!

nendo_yoko_02

Gomen for the Itsuki on Asakura body Figma… but he/she was sitting around handy (I’ve been frankensteining my Figmas lately). Anyway, Nendo Yoko actually does come with a decent amount of stuff.

nendo_yoko_03

To be exact, you get:

  • 2 extra Faces (not including the default one)
  • Sniper Rifle (with 2 different straps)
  • 2 alternate legs for sniping position
  • 3 alternate arms
  • Orange glasses
  • Standard Nendo Stand

nendo_yoko_04

Here she is in default config. Extremely cute! ^_^

nendo_yoko_05

It actually took me a while to afix the Sniper Rifle with the wearable strap – for some reason the paint had turned into glue or something and was stuck >_>. Took quite a bit of careful wiggling. Also Yoko’s bewbs got in the way ^_^. First Nendo with big bewbies???

nendo_yoko_06

The pink strap had also transferred some of its paint to the gun! No biggie though, as it is usually out of sight. And I could probably fix it with a bit of paint thinner. Anyway despite those flaws, there is nothing wrong with the figure itself. An almost perfect figure if you ask me!

nendo_yoko_07

I think this one is going to have to be my favourite face. No need to explain I bet.

nendo_yoko_08

Eto? Too cute for words ^_^;;

nendo_yoko_09

Did I mention cute already? Gomen.

nendo_yoko_10

And the final face, which goes with the Sniper limbs. I think I’m going to have to give the “Coolest Nendoroid” Award to this one.

nendo_yoko_11

She actually holds the gun quite well, despite there being no pegs or straps attaching it to her. The glasses fit to the inside front of her fringe (or bangs is how you call them for you yanks!).

nendo_yoko_12

Is there such a word as Cool and Cute together? Kakkoi Kawaii? Kakwai? I don’t think you can beat a cute girl face with pony tail, on top of a busty, half-naked bikini-clad voluptuous bod, with a massive gun. Even if it is super deformed.

nendo_yoko_13

And now it’s that time of the “Ace Review” yet again. The time where I put my crazy hat on and become Doctor Frankenstein ^_^

nendo_yoko_14

I think Light would approve of this one!

nendo_yoko_15

Shana grown up a lil bit?

nendo_yoko_16

Goth Loli Yoko.

nendo_yoko_17

Vocaloid Yoko.

nendo_yoko_18

Come to think of it, Gurren Lagann had one of the best ever sound tracks for an anime IMO. Sora Iro Days. Happily Ever After. AWESOME songs.

In conclusion, I’m going to highly recommend this figure. A solid 9/10. If you’re a fan of Nendoroids, and Yoko, there really is no excuse for not getting this. Plus as you can see, the inter-changeability with other Nendoroids is super-win with a half-naked bikini bod and Huge Farking Gun accessories. Case in Point below:

nendo_yoko_19

Does that rock, or does that not rock? Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this review, I’m outta practise! Sayanara for now! ~Ace

Haha, nice body-head combination. I’m not a fan of Yoko, but i really want that sniper rifle.

  3. Snark says:

Fuck I so want the Yoko nendo now…gah, I’m going to become so poor thanks to you! >_<

Also, L-Yoko is the funniest thing I’ve seen this whole month! I applaud your comedy good sir!

  4. acesan says:

Phossil, yeah I really reckon yoko as a vocoloid would work, she just needs green hair, or a red themed clothes!

Sonic, if you really want Figma weapons or Nendo weapons, should get 1:144 Gundams, they are like the perfect size 😛

And Snark, soz man, my intention is not to get people into debt by figure addictions lol!

Waaaaah!!! Oh my god, I both love you and hate you. Because you introduced me to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. You mentioned it here, so I decided to check it out. And, when I did, I stuck to it like glue. I don’t usually like mecha animes…but this series was just…way TOO epic for words. It was so amazing the whole way through. It is now also one of my all-time favorite animes. I love Simon’s character development. BUT. Once I finished it, there is like an empty void in my life. Something so awesome ending…I’m like in depression now. Because it was so awesome, it hurt that much more when it ended. And if it had a happier ending, I probably wouldn’t be this sad. I mean, how could they kill of *** and make ***??? Sigh. The ending was good, but so unsatisfying. How dare you introduce me to such an amazing anime???? Ah well. I thank you for it though, cuz it really was too epic to pass up

  8. acesan says:

Hehe, you say that, but think about when it first came out, I had to wait a week between each episode!!! Now that was torture.

Yeah the ending was kind of “Gainaxed” but it sort of fit, since it is a Gainax anime.

PS I hope you dont mind but I censored some of your post in case it spoilers anyone else who may be interested but hasn’t seen it yet 🙂
